A Conversation with Past Greenpeace Canada President, Dr. Patrick Moore

Moore, P. (2010). Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout: The Making of a Sensible Environmentalist. Beatty Street Publishing, Inc.

Former Greenpeace Canada President, Dr. Patrick Moore, discusses his early career and influences. In 1985, when the French government sanctioned and carried out the bombing of the Greenpeace vessel Rainbow Warrior, killing Portugal-born Greenpeace photographer Fernando Pereira, Dr. Moore was there. Dr. Moore visits and talks about how he got started in environmental activism.

Since his time with Greenpeace, combatting nuclear testing and saving the whales, Dr. Moore’s focus has moved to other areas, including advocacy for fish farming, genetically modified foods, and nuclear energy, placing him in contrast to those involved with Greenpeace, who do not share his views.

Whether one agrees with Dr. Moore’s views or not, Dr. Moore’s work exemplifies the notion that if one believes in something, whether for or against, one should go out and do something about it. Actions, not words.

Dr. Moore’s story is interesting. This conversation occurred in 2014, after I read his book Confessions of a Greenpeace Dropout.
